Last month I attended the UKAWP (UK Alliance of Wedding Planners) Wedding Design Workshop at B.Loved Hive in London. A great studio space situated in the Biscuit Factory in Bermondsey. Our instructors for the day were Andri Benson from www.alwaysandri.co.uk and Alexandra Merri from www.thebijoubride.com. Two lovely and enthusiastic ladies who had so much design knowledge and experience to share.
The aim of the workshop was to further our creative skills, both as wedding planners and stylists. I feel it is so important to continue learning as much as possible about the wedding industry. One of the many benefits of belonging to UKAWP is that they regularly set up such workshops. It ensures that I keep up to date with all the current trends.
The day itself kicked off with a short creative exercise to encourage us to “think out of the box”. We didn’t get it, but easy once you know how. I did test it on my husband and son when I got home and they also failed miserably. We were however not deterred by this, and moved quickly on to the next creative task. We all passed this with flying colours and all produced very different work.
The rest of the day was spent working in two groups developing a mood board and then responding to a client’s brief to produce a fabulous tablescape. It was really interesting working as a team and channelling our different ideas. We were provided with a huge array of choice for place settings and decoration and had Catherine Short from Catherine Short Floral Design creating a beautiful arrangement to compliment the tablescape. It was amazing how she could produce such an attractive and fitting arrangement in such a short space of time. All this was captured on camera by Amanda Karen Photography who produced some lovely images and so unobtrusively.
The day was rounded off perfectly with a glass of Prosecco, pink doughnuts and an opportunity to chat and review what we had learnt.
A huge thank you to Andri and Alex for a most enlightening day. The workshop was not only enjoyable, but a great opportunity to enhance our skill set and to meet others within the wedding industry. I certainly went away feeling inspired to put all my newly acquired knowledge into practice.
