I recently read in the newspaper that Clinton Cards have declared that sales of 50th birthday cards and party accessories have overtaken those of 21st birthday cards. Admittedly, most 21 year olds will just leave a message on social media. On the other hand, in the past many people would try and let their 50th birthday slip by unnoticed. How times have changed.
I think 50 is the perfect age to hold a fabulous celebration for family and friends. Fifty year olds today, officially known as quinquagenarians, look much younger than previous generations. They tend to be far more fashion conscious and still possess an amazing amount of joie de vivre. They also know how to party. By the time you have reached 50 you will possibly have teenage children and have amassed many friends along the way. What better way to celebrate your next century than by gathering them all together.

Once you have made the decision to throw a party, there are so many options available. For example a marquee in the garden, or country house location, with a sit down dinner and dancing, is always a popular choice. There are now innumerable possibilities for the theme and tone of your party, of course enhanced by the setting itself. Will you choose a traditional marquee, tipi, sperry tent or Arabian style tent? If a more formal party is not your style, then you could opt for a tipi and hold a festival style party with a couple of bands. Your guests could of course fully embrace the theme and dress up for a festival. Hopefully this would not include mud and rain and reflect a more comfortable festival experience, more along the lines of the increasingly popular glamping!
If a marquee party does not appeal, another lovely idea is hiring a country house for exclusive use for you and your guests. For a more intimate celebration for say 12 to 50 people, a champagne reception and black tie dinner is a lovely way to celebrate. But why stick to black tie? A Murder Mystery evening could be a fun spin on a traditional dinner, of course commencing in a delicious feast. If you choose a venue with a spa then you could make a weekend of it, leaving truly pampered and having having caught up with your nearest and dearest.
If 2018 is bringing with it your 50th birthday, why not plan a celebration in style. 50 only happens once.
